How often should you go to the dentist? How often should you service the car? How often should you do yoga?
Lots of life’s most important questions begin with ‘how often…’.
That’s because we know that frequent maintenance is always better than leaving a problem to escalate and addressing it later on. It’s better to go to the dentist every six months and get your teeth cleaned than it is to wait for a cavity to occur, and it’s better to do an oil change at the mechanic’s than to wait until you have an engine problem.
So, in the world of patterned concrete, how often should you reseal?
The experts at Dulux Avista tell us everything we need to know:
Patterned concrete maintenance guide
Patterned concrete is one of the best ways to achieve stunning custom looks on what would otherwise be plain, old concrete. Though patterned concrete doesn’t need too much maintenance, it will need a bit of cleaning and should be resealed every 2-3 years. Here’s how it’s done:
Clean your concrete in dry, warm weather
When the weather is warm and dry, apply some soap to your patterned stamped concrete. Give it a hose down and then scrub the surface with a brush. Rinse off the suds and let it dry. This prepares the surface to be resealed.
Applying the sealer
Afterwards, it’s as easy as applying the concrete sealer (like Dulux Avista Concrete Sealer Tintable Base) mixed with our Dulux Avista Colour Tint to provide the finish you desire. If you’re not comfortable applying the sealer yourself, one of our professionals can come and do it for you.
Products to use for patterned concrete resealing
There are two key products we recommend for resealing patterned concrete:
A solvent-based sealer which is ideal for refreshing most exterior concrete surfaces including stamped or patterned concrete surfaces.
Our range of coloured tints provides a protective coloured coating to re-colour or refresh most exterior concrete surfaces, including patterned concrete.
The verdict
Take good care of your patterned concrete by cleaning it once every 6 months and resealing it with quality Dulux Avista products every 2-3 years, depending on your local climate and how much traffic it experiences.
