There’s nothing more satisfying than watching an ugly, grey concrete floor be transformed into gorgeous, speckled polished or epoxy floor concrete.
Polished concrete is one of Australia’s favourite choices for high-end flooring. Polished concrete is an easy, economical way to achieve a smooth, sleek flooring option that is durable, attractive and practical.
Polished concrete floors are economical and modern, and resistant to stains, marks and dust. However, they can be susceptible to moisture and should be sealed at regular intervals to prevent mould and mildew. It can also become slippery when wet. This is one of the reasons it is important to reseal polished concrete regularly.
Resealing polished concrete is possibly the largest job which needs doing every now and then – but just how often should your polished concrete be resealed?
Let’s ask the experts at Dulux Avista and explain how often you should be resealing polished concrete:
Factors that influence resealing polished concrete
There are a bunch of factors that have an impact on the frequency of polished concrete resealing. Like with anything, there are general rules and there are exceptions. Regular car tyres, for example, should be changed every four years, but if we’re talking about Formula One car tyres, they’re changed three or four times per race!
Polished concrete in a commercial setting generally endures heavier use than that of a domestic environment, due to constant foot traffic as well as use of machinery and equipment. This means commercial concrete polished floors require resealing earlier than domestic ones.
Concrete is a super durable material, but it doesn’t last forever. A polished concrete floor that’s over 50 years old will need more maintenance than one that’s 3 years old.
A regularly and properly maintained polished concrete floor may need less frequent resealing than a neglected polished concrete floor. To ensure longevity of your polished concrete floor, keep it clean and vacuumed, and only use a soft mop with pH-neutral cleaning agents.
How often should your polished concrete floor be resealed?
As we said, there are several factors which determine the ideal frequency of resealing, but generally polished concrete should be resealed between 2-10 years, with 5 years being a solid average.
