All the cracks, marks and fading on the existing substrate were impacting the aesthetics of the village. The cost of ripping up that concrete and relaying new roads was prohibitively expensive for the owners, Retire Australia. They were thrilled to learn that the Dulux Avista Resurfacing System was capable of delivering a sleek, tough and non-slip finish.
Dulux Group Account Manager, Marc Tribbia, explains the process, “After grinding back the substrate, the cracks were smoothed with a V-blade grinder and filled with our Concrete Crack Repair Kit, which is an epoxy resin that is mixed with fine sand.”
The application of the waterbased Dulux Avista Resurfacing Primer filled imperfections and created an ideal base for the Dulux Avista Resurfacing Base Compound. Dulux Avista Colour Oxide in Dark Terracotta was added to the mix before Civil Central's applicators troweled the surface.
“The cement compound has added polymers and modifiers to make it highly durable,” Marc explains. “And the quality of our colourfast oxide is second to none in the marketplace.”
The Dulux Avista Resurfacing Accelerator was added to the compound to speed up drying in areas that are shaded or near water, such as the bridges. This product is also a game changer in cooler weather.
Lastly, the Dulux Avista General Purpose Sealer was sprayed over the top, building a clear protective coating that will require minimal maintenance.
“The whole system is very robust when applied properly. It will resist UV exposure, dirt ingress and staining, even in the most volatile weather,” Marc says.
This major project was time intensive and faced challenges such as lockdowns and wet weather. However, the owners are extremely pleased with the result, with similar projects planned for other properties in their portfolio.
